Vonda passed away peacefully in her home on September 5th surrounded by her adoring family.
Vonda was born November 23, 1927, the oldest child to Walter Betson Eardley and Regetta Walker in Lyman, Wyoming.
At the tender age of 5, Vonda lost her mother and lived the rest of her youth with her Grandpa and Grandma Eardley. Growing up under those circumstances and during the depression, Vonda understood the value of work and thrift.
On August 24, 1946, Vonda married her high school sweetheart, H. Melvin Platts in Lyman, Wyoming. They are the parents of Scotty and Barry. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, February 20, 1967. Vonda and Mel owned and operated the cafe on main street for several years before moving to the ranch where Vonda worked hard and kept everyone happy with her delicious cooking and loving smile.
Vonda and Melvin recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. They enjoyed traveling and serving. They served as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 3 times.
Vonda enjoyed drama, band, bowling, golf, cake decorating, shopping, spending time with her special life-long friends and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vonda is survived by her husband, H. Melvin Platts, one son, Barry Platts (Lori) of Gilbert, AZ, and one brother, Darius Walter Eardley Grandchildren, Misty (Matthew) McCombie of Cheney, Wa, Traci (Jason) Haycock of Lyman, Kip (Jennifer) Platts, Heidi (Travis) Gregory of Lyman, Jennifer (Ed) Parker of Bountiful, Utah, Nikki (AJ) Nielson of Chandler, AZ. Lance W. Nikolaus of Lakeside, AZ. Megan (Ivan) Hancock of Mesa, AZ. Jessica (Shane) Hamblin of Eager, AZ. and Catherine (Jake) Veater of Gilbert, AZ. and, 26 great-grandchildren.
Vonda was preceded in death by her son, Scotty Rex Platts, her sisters, Lois Gardener and Zoanne Near, her parents and step mother.
The funeral will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 11:00 at the Lyman Stake Center. Viewings will also be held Friday from 6-8pm and Saturday morning from 9:30-10:45. Interment will be at the Lyman, Wyoming Cemetery.
