Mr. Vivian Otonel Montoya of Evanston Wyoming has passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 13th, 2022 at age 86.
Vivian was born in 1936, in Ojo Feliz, New Mexico to Gomencinda Arguello and Miguel Montoya, the eldest of four siblings. Vivian worked from a very young age in the fields as a migrant worker, until eventually joining the railroad as a teenager. He would go on to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for more than 50 years. As a young man, he met Angie, the love of his life, and they were married in 1960 in Rawlins, WY. The pair would go on to have two sons together and eventually play an an active role in the lives of their grandchildren.
Vivian enjoyed camping, fixing cars, ranchero music, old westerns, and enjoying his wife’s cooking. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with others. With a friendly wave, for Vivian there were no strangers, only friends he had yet to meet. He had an easy and outgoing nature with a kind sense of humor. A generous spirit, he was always quick to roll up his sleeves and help others.
Vivian will be greatly missed by those who love him.
Vivian is preceded in death by his wife, Angela Bustos Monotya, and their son Paul Montoya. He leaves behind their youngest son, Anthony Montoya, their two grandchildren Megan Montoya (m. Kathryn Ecsedy) and Matthew Montoya, as well as three great grandchildren by Matthew: Jacob, Issac, and Acacia.
He also leaves behind his devoted siblings Juan and Josie, sister-in-law Catherine, nieces and nephews Dee, Randy, and Helen, extended family, and a lifetime of close friends.
