Virgil Lynn “Ping” Mitchell, passed away on October 22, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah with his daughter by his side.
He was born April 4, 1929 in Marion, Utah to Clifford Leslie and Florence Irene (Sorenson) Mitchell.
He married Joyce Elda Ball on September 12, 1953 in Coalville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
He retired from the Utah Department of Transportation and continued working for Uinta Engineering.
He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 – 1953 and was awarded two purple hearts.
He was a active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed serving in various callings. Ping was an active member of the LeRoy E. Benson American Legion Post 93, and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce and his daughter, Joylin (Wallace) Reed, and his granddaughter, Shaneen Reed and a step-grandson, Anton Reed.

Also many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers, Willard “Bill”; Alvin “Sam”; Joseph “John”; Glen “Short”; and sisters: Norma Clegg; and Erma Roundy, and infant sister June Irene.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coalville Stake Center, 40 North Main Street. Friends and family may call at the church on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12 to 12:45 prior to the service.
Interment with military honors will follow in the Coalville cemetery.
