Vernal E. Jenkins, 87, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, in Salt Lake City on January 22, 2022.
He was born on April 3, 1934 in Freedom, Wyoming to Glen LaMar and Alice Agusta (Erickson) Jenkins.
Following graduation from High School he served a proselyting mission in the central states for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Following his mission he served his country in the United States Army. He worked in various jobs including farming, logging and sawmill work, fighting forest fires, and making rocket fuel at Hercules. He settled in his career for the government as a letter carrier, where he enjoyed meeting and visiting many people---and their pets.
On August 19, 1960 he married his “Sweetheart”, Diane Lambert, in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple.
He loved sports, especially basketball. He served as a ward clerk, helped with church sports and as a “Tuesday evening” temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple for many years. He loved family time, vacations and chocolate milkshakes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane and his children, Lisa Coon (Mike), Lloyd Jenkins, Dan Jenkins (Sandy); his grandchildren, Nathan Coon (Stephanie), Alissa Coon, Amanda Johnston (Cory), Rebecca Jenkins, Alexander Jenkins; his great grandchildren, Cameron Coon, Connor Coon; brothers and sisters, AnnaMay Anglesey (Cloyde), Glen Jenkins.
The family has chosen to do a family graveside service at the Crandall Funeral Home/Marion Cemetery in Kamas, Utah.
