Vera J. “Dolly” Gines Dugdale passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the amazing age of 100. She was born March 30, 1913 in Woodland, Utah, the seventh child of Samuel Gines Jr., and Etta Coe Gines. She was given the name of Vera J (for Jane) but when she was one day old, her brother affectionately gave her the name of Dolly, of which she was known throughout her life.
In 1942 Vera Married the love of her life, Owen E. Dugdale, in Evanston Wyoming. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 6 children.
Vera learned to work hard throughout her life. Outside of home, she worked for the schools, the bank the Air Force as a civil servant, and the Forrest Service to name a few. She was a gifted writer and had 2 books published by Rand McNally. She has served in various capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints including Relief Society President as Ward, Branch and two different stakes. She also worked in scouting and other auxiliaries, was involved in family history research, and would frequently be asked to write special programs for the ward or stake.
Vera never knew a stranger and had friends throughout the country. She kept busy with all kinds of hobbies. She loved to dance. She did beautiful work as a seamstress and quilter. Her talents were endless with all kinds of needlework, crochet, knitting and embroidery. She also loved to garden, can and cook.
Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son Chad Lee (Fran) Hardman, daughter Sherrie (Lee) Rydalch, 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at Crandall Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Family Viewing Wednesday 11:00-11:45 A.M., with funeral services at 12:00 noon at the Woodland L.D.S. Ward Building. Interment will follow services at the Woodland Cemetery.
