Vaughn T. Satterthwaite passed away September 22, 2021 at his home on the ranch
north of Evanston, Wyoming. He was born December 20, 1934 in Garden City, Utah to Owen and Lazette (Sims) Satterthwaite. His father died in a logging accident when Vaughn was barely 1 year old so his mother went to work teaching school and his sisters helped raise him. He had many jobs as a teenager working at the resorts on the shores of Bear Lake. He believed it was the most beautiful place on earth. He spent many hours learning to roller skate and was very good at it.
He met the love of his life at a dance at the Fish Haven Idaho resort. When he went home to tell his mother he had met the most beautiful girl, she advised him not to get involved with the Johnsons. Needless to say, he didn't listen and Vaughn & Gail were married in the Logan Temple on June 19, 1958. Vaughn was much loved and admired by the entire Johnson family and everyone who knew him.
He graduated from Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho, attended Utah State College and served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Southern California and Northern Arizona. He served in the United States Army Reserves for six years and was called up during the Berlin Crisis to go to Fort Lewis, Washington in case we had to go to war. He and Gail lived there for a year. He tried his hand at many things including ranching on the Johnson Ranch and Dick Sims Ranch. He was a truck driver for Hutchinson Oil for many years and retired there. He spent the rest of his life puttering around their place with his constant companion "Little Dog."
Vaughn was humble, kind, honest, loyal, forgiving, and loved the Lord as was demonstrated by his many church callings including Bishop of the Almy and 5th Ward where he was instrumental in the building of the new chapel on Elm Street. He also served on the High Council and as Stake Patriarch of the Evanston Wyoming Stake. an He had a wonderful voice, loved music and always sang in the church choir.
He is survived by his wife, Gail of 63 years, Children: Sherry Ann (Michael) Johnson, Mark V. (Courtney) Satterthwaite, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Duane, sisters, Ellen, Delma and his son, Michael D. Satterthwaite.
