Tom Sweat Watkins
Tom Sweat Watkins, 76, passed away July 5, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born on September 29, 1944 in Heber City, Utah to Lyman Maurice and Nelda LaRene (Sweat) Watkins. After graduating from Wasatch High School in 1962 he served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. During his military service he was deployed to Korea.
He married Elizabeth (Liz) Larsen on August 16, 1968. Their marriage was later sealed for time and eternity in the Ogden, Utah Temple on September 18, 1982.
They were blessed with four children: Julie Ann (Randy) Johnson, Lyman; Robby Thomas Watkins, Mt. View; Clint David Watkins, Newcastle; and Jenny Jean Schultz, Lyman; 8 grandchildren: Lacy (Daniel) Boyles, Jc (Keziah) Johnson, Chevelle (Talon) Cook, Davie (Michael) Bluemel, Allie, Kolmen, and Kylee Shultz, and Parker Watkins; 6 Great Grandchildren, Aiden, Kia and Matthew Boyles; Parker and Kaiser Cook; and Ana Bluemel.
Tom had several jobs. He drove truck and worked at the sawmill in Heber, Ut. He worked at Treasure Mountain Sky Resort as a snow roller and in the Ore Mines by Heber. When the mines shut down, he and his brother Floyd were recruited to the FMC Trona Mine in Green River, WY. Tom worked at FMC for 36 years and retired from there in September 2006. Tom and Liz lived in Lyman for 9 years, then they bought property and moved to Mountain View, where they raised their family and enjoyed country life.
Tom loved hunting, fishing, picnicking and having bon fires in the back yard. He enjoyed loading bullets and then shooting as many as he could. He welded anything he could think of, his own trailers, porches and deck on his home. He also trained horses for several years with the Cloverleaf Bitless Bridle that his father and brother invented. He was very proud of the bridle of which he made many himself and gave to friends.
Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he held several positions including, Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum Presidency, High Priest Presidency, but his favorite job was as a Home Teacher. He loved to visit with people and share the gospel.
Tom was an amazing husband, father and grandpa. Family was the most important thing to Tom and he let them all know how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. Tom’s greatest gift was his children and grands and he spent countless hours with them wrestling, jumping on the trampoline, teasing, making silly jokes, teaching them everything he could. He knew they were a gift from God and he cherished every one.
Tom and Liz are soulmates. Their love is genuine and they always held each other tight through the good times and tighter through the tuff times.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Nelda; his older brother Dale, and his younger sister Marcyne.
Hopefully they can ride horses and have bon fires in heaven.
Thank you for loving us all dad. We will miss you but we know we will all be together soon.
Our family would like to thank Cowboy Cares Home Health, Issac Lords and all our family and friends who helped to keep Tom comfortable at home. Also Bridger Valley Ambulance for their quick response each time we needed them and the many hospitals and rehab centers Tom visited. So many people joined us on this journey over the last several years.
