Sterling D. Downey
August 12, 1974-June 22, 2016
Sterling “Stewie” Downey made his last sarcastic and probably wildly inappropriate comment on June 22.
Sterling was born to June Burnside and Dennis Downey on August 12th of 1974, and immediately began tearing things apart and putting them back together. His older sister JoDee upheld the sibling oath to torment and harass him until he could pass on those learned skills to Jase and Chesney when they followed him in the sibling line.
He is survived by friends, family members, and dubious acquaintances too vast to list in this brief space. Many of them can recount fond stories that would be inappropriate in mixed company.
Sterling worked over the years in roofing, building log furniture, and heavy equipment operation. The last 15 years, he worked side-by-side with his brother Jase at Rees’s Enterprise in Mesquite, NV, for Blaine Rees.
Sterling died knowing that Stephen King was the best author, reloading shells was a tricky business, hacky sack was the best social exercise in history, and chicks dig nice trucks.
His regrets were few but include naming his dog Zippy. He blatantly stated that if he knew how hard it would be to say that name after a stroke, he would have named him something that rhymed with truck. He also regrets that no video evidence exists of his prowess at the slot machines and in the bedroom, and that he never got to meet Dee Snider.
Although a less than average life span, Sterling did not live an average life. He traveled where he wanted to travel, laughed inappropriately at every chance, learned what he wanted to learn, fixed what he wanted to fix, and loved who he wanted to love.
Friends and family will be invited to a luncheon/memoriam at 11:30 on Friday, June 24th, at Hamblin Park on Bear River Drive (Evanston). Don’t be late!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Home Health & Hospice, 637 Front Street, Evanston, WY 82930.
Anyone wearing black will have to cook their own hotdog, as per Sterling’s request.
