Sandra Butters Atkinson loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed peacefully away on the morning of June 8, 2016 in her loving home of 60 years in Kamas, Utah. She was born July 23, 1935 to Howard E. Butters and Thelma Peterson Butters in Marion, Utah, the youngest of three daughters.
Sandra was a life-long resident of Kamas Valley. She graduated from South Summit High School and spent a year attending Brigham Young University. She married her dedicated husband of 61 years, George Garold Atkinson on Feb 11, 1955 in Kamas, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She served faithfully in the LDS church including many callings in the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary programs, and loved serving everyone around her. Sandra worked in the South Summit School District and spent 20 years working for the United States Postal Service.
Sandra loved to travel with family and friends. She enjoyed socializing with her friends, especially those in the Valleyette Club where she was a member for over 50 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved reading, working in the yard, serving others and being with her family. She was a very compassionate woman and touched the hearts of everyone around her.
She is survived by her husband, Garold and her children: Clay (Shanna) Atkinson, Kelly Ann Peterson, Shari (Mike) Pappas, LaNae (Troy) Ence, Jason Jon (Katie) Atkinson, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Betty Wilde.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; sister Karen; and 2 brother-in-laws.

Funeral service will be Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 12 noon in the Kamas LDS Ward Chapel, 100 West Center Street. A viewing will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery, Marion, Utah
