Rulon Frazier

February 25, 1934 — May 13, 2017

Rulon Kent Frazier, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away May 13, 2017 from a short but courageous battle with cancer in the comfort of his home.

He was born on February 25, 1934 to Thomas LaMar and Grace (Prescott) Frazier. Kent grew up in Oakley, Utah and graduated from South Summit High School. He then served an LDS mission in Western Canada. He attended Brigham Young University and received his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Health. BYU is where he met his wife Kenna Beth (Dayton) Frazier. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on August 12, 1959. Shortly after, he served in the Army where he was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA during the Berlin Crisis. Kent later taught school and coached basketball and football for 30 years. 22 of those years were spent at South Summit High School. Kent built a remarkable basketball program and was later recognized as one of the "winning-est" coaches in the state of Utah, with 450 career wins. Throughout his years of coaching, many of his teams in both football and or basketball have either played for or won
several championships.

In 1999 Kent was inducted into the Distinguished Coaches of Utah Sports Hall of Fame for his records in basketball. He was also inducted into the Utah High School Activities Association "Circle of Fame" in 2000. Kent served on the Oakley City Town Council for 8 years. He was an active member of the LDS church and served in many auxiliaries as a member of the Bishopric, the High Council, and High Priest Committees. When Kent wasn't teaching or coaching, he enjoyed spending his spring, summer, and fall working on the farm. Kent was a great example, mentor, and friend to many athletes and coaches. He loved being a coach and he loved his farm! However, his greatest love and joy in life was his family.

He is survived by his wife Kenna, Oakley; daughters Kathy Mae (Gary) Sorenson, Oakley; Karri (Ammon) Bennett, Price; Konni (Johnny) Thompson, Oakley; Karma (Troy) Bonner, Oakley; Weston Kent (Sheri) Frazier, Oakley; and Jed LaMar (Rachel) Frazier, Oakley; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Sharee Pace and Brenda Atkinson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, VerNon. A very special thanks to Audrey Stembridge for her tender care and extra love she gave throughout this difficult time!

A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 17th from 6:00 to 8:00pm and Thursday, May 18th from 9:45 to 10:45am. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 18th at 11:00am at the North Bench LDS Church on 1224 West State Rd. 32, Oakley.
