Roger Eugene Cox, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 84, Monday, February 24, 2025, in Evanston, Wyoming. He was born and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming, before moving to Thermopolis, WY, where he graduated from high school. Throughout his childhood and teenage years in both Sheridan and Thermopolis, he developed a deep and lasting love for the outdoors.
Roger was always an adventurer and daredevil at heart, but he was also patient, detail-oriented, and a great listener. He valued listening far more than speaking, which is ironic because he was also a charismatic speaker-he just made sure he didn't have to do it very often. He preferred to be a man of few words, and that quality allowed others around him to shine-especially his wife and children. Whether in woodworking, gunsmithing, or life, Roger's appreciation for detail and precision was evident in everything he did.
Roger had a distinguished career encompassing roles in both finance and healthcare. He retired from the State Hospital in Evanston, WY, after serving with dedication. His career also included significant contributions to the banking sector, notably as vice president at 1st Wyoming Bank in Cody, WY. Beyond his professional life, while living in Riverton, WY, Roger served his community in the police reserves.
A man of many talents, Roger was an avid gunsmith, actively participating in the development of the Cody Shooting Complex. His hobbies were wide-ranging, including reading, woodworking, motorcycles, and long drives. He was passionate about the great outdoors and enjoyed activities such as hunting and fishing. He was also a dog lover, though he would rarely admit it.
Roger was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Southern States.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Eldon Cox, his son Glen Cox, and his grandson Trevor Capps.
Roger is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Bonnie Christler Cox, and their children: Roger and Andrea Cox of Tooele, Utah; Allison and Steve Capps of Apple Valley, CA; Michael and Tonya Cox of Apple Valley, CA; Kristina and Daniel Brownell of Cheyenne, WY; and Joline and Ty Belnap of Missoula, MT. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through his 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Roger's life was a testament to family, love, and devotion. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In accordance with his wishes, Roger will be cremated under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home of Evanston, WY.
