Richard Allen Groth of Evanston, Wyoming passed away on July 10, 2022, at the age of 72. He was surrounded by the love of family and gave his final breath while listening to “Hey Jude” by the Beatles.
Richard was born on December 8, 1949, to Natalie and Robert Keith Groth in Rocky Ford, Colorado. He had one younger sister who was his best friend and although they didn’t live close, not a week went by without that Sunday phone call.
Richard graduated from Rock Ford High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University. Richard was a dedicated and hard worker and spent his life in retail management. It was while managing a store in Boulder, Colorado where he met the love of his life, Kathleen or has he called her, Kat. They were married in 1979 and moved to Evanston, Wyoming in 1983.
Richard did not need a lot to be happy. He loved spending time with his family whether that involved traveling to cheer on kids and grandkids in various sports or events, playing trivia or cards, or cheering on the Denver Broncos or Utah Jazz from the comfort of his home. He loved family get togethers and was widely known for his unique gift giving and wrapping style. Richard also had a love for animals, especially dogs and they loved him. He will forever be known as the Dogfather and had the t-shirt to prove it. He was quick with a hug or a smile and a kind word and will be dearly missed by friends, families and the dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Groth of Evanston, WY; daughters, Lora Stuart of West Jordan, Ut and Michelle (Tyler) Tholl of Evanston, WY; son Steven (Melanie) Hershfeldt of Oakland, MD, 9 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Natalie and his Grandparents.
A private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flower please donate to your local animal shelter.
