Reinhard Ruf

Reinhard Ruf, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at his longtime home in Peoa, Utah on August 26, 2021.

He was born the son of Bertha Arn and Adolph Heinrich Ruf on December 12,1941 in Bern, Switzerland. He and his family were modern day pioneers who left their European home to seek temple blessings in Utah.

Reini proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps right out of high school, and later served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Brazil. These were both treasured experiences that shaped his life.  He graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City and earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Utah. He worked as a construction safety professional for many different agencies across Utah, including UDOT for many years, where his attention to detail was legendary.  Reini lived a rich and varied life. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment, being in nature, watching BYU sports and the Outdoor Channel, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Irene Andrus Ruf, his children, Erik (Maria), Lisia (Spencer Childs), David (Kami), Suzanne (Daniel Hatch), Douglas (Christy), Michelle (Paul Howells), Michael (Jacki), and Daniel (Kelli), thirty-one grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Francie Meacham and Julie (Robert Poole).

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 in the Peoa Ward Chapel at 11:00 AM, and will be live streamed on the Peoa Ward YouTube channel beginning at 10:50 AM.  Interment will follow in the Marion Cemetery.  The service will be preceded by a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.  An additional viewing will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2022, at the church from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  According to his request, both public viewings will be closed casket.
