Reed Jan Schumann age 57 died unexpectedly at his home in Woodland, UT April 4, 2014. He was born April 30, 1956 in Elko, NV. He was the last of eight children born to Hyrum and Marlena (Pohlsander) Schumann.
He was raised in Clover Valley, NV until the age of eight when the family moved from their cattle ranch in Nevada to a dairy in Peoa, UT a few years after the death of his father. He attended South Summit High School in Kamas and graduated in 1974. He participated in FFA, football, wrestling and rodeo. He loved the Kamas Valley and his family, friends and neighbors there. He attended Utah Valley Trade Tech. Reed worked hard his whole life starting at the family dairy and he was known widely as an exceptional rancher and held a variety of jobs from ranch manager to heavy equipment operator. But wherever he was - he was a cowboy through and through in every best sense of that word. He loved the great outdoors and had a special way with animals.
He left the Kamas Valley for Baker, Oregon; Malta, Montana, and Ogden, Utah before returning to the Kamas Valley. He loved giving everyone a nickname. He loved any time spent outdoors, especially riding, hunting, fishing. He had a wonderful sense of humor, made friends wherever he went, and had a heart as big as the great outdoors.
Reed is survived by his wife Kathryn Schumann, his sons Dallas Schumann (Cagnie), Andrew Schumann (Lacy), and daughter Jan Schumann (they were his pride and joy) his grandsons Jarett (his best fishing buddy) and Kanin (his little buckaroo) Schumann (who were his greatest delight.) Also survived by step-children Matthew Jackson (Jessica), Jessica Marie Jackson, and Daniel Jackson who loved and appreciated him for how much happiness he brought their mother; and his step-grandsons Beau and Brock Jackson who loved their Grandpa Reed.
Siblings are Celia Marchant (Jerry), Dallas Schumann (Beth), Venna Ballard, Helen Schumann, Karen Wright (Wally), Kathryn Cahoon, and Rolf Schumann. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hyrum and Marlena Schumann.
