We have lost a bright light in our family. Those of you that know him, loved him. He was one of those shining lights that would brighten even the worst of circumstances. Randy had an infectious laugh with a sense of humor that was appreciated and loved by all.
Randy was born on September 20, 1977 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Randy joined his brother, Todd, and many other loved family members on December 12, 2016 as a result of chronic meningitis and acute lobar pneumonia. It is a devastating blow to all of us.
Randy spent his earlier years in Riverton, Wyoming. He began his baseball career there in his Grandparents back yard with a plastic bat and ball. He soon graduated to t-ball. To shorten the beautiful story of his baseball career, he was a standout with our Evanston Outlaws, received a full ride scholarship to college, engaged an agent and was looked at by the Cincinnati Reds and the Mets. It was quite a ride for a young man. The only thing that surpassed his baseball talent was his big, kind and caring heart. Randy injured his shoulder and moved on to a hopeful career as an electrician. He began his electrical career in St. George, Utah. Through the years, Randy found himself in a few different states as he moved on with his life. A proud moment for Randy was the ability to assist those that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. He was working in the area at that time; and electricians were in high demand in order to get those communities back on their feet.
Randy’s brother, Todd, passed away on August 27, 2011 as the result of a tragic boating accident. This interrupted Randy’s life in some devastating ways. He struggled so with the loss of his brother, thus struggled with some of life’s issues.
While living in Vernal, Randy met some beautiful caring people who became his friends, his brothers and sisters and his mentors as they came together to wrestle with many of the same issues. They helped Randy toward getting his life back on the right track. They were and remain a treasure.
At the time of his passing, Randy was working in the Riverdale, Utah area as an electrician. He had recently moved to Riverdale from Vernal, Utah where he had struggled with employment with loss of our oil industry.
Randy was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Todd, his paternal grandparents, Clyde and Lillian (Meg) Smith, and his maternal grandfather, Duane Johnson. Randy’s great grandparents have also passed.
Surviving in loving memory and with all our love for Randy are his mother, Debbie (Joe) Terech, his father, Mark (Ella) Smith, half brother Aaron (Misty) Smith with children Eden, Elly & Elise, half sister Rachelle (Katie) (Jake) Genthos. Also surviving is his brother Todd’s children, Connor Smith and Kaitlyn Smith. Maternal grandmother Mary Johnson, Uncles Brad Johnson and Jamie Johnson of Dubois, Aunt Shelly and Uncle Jim of Vernal, Utah, Cousins Beth Richins & children, Sara Garrett and daughter, also all of Vernal, Utah. Uncle Randy (Karen) Smith and Aunt Julie (Chris) Moore. Many cousins and extended family members who will miss him dearly. And, of course, the many friends Randy met throughout his 39 years.

Randy was a free spirited, loving and carefree kind of guy. Your presence is far more important than your attire.
