Rachel Evon Poe Shelton, 85, passed away at the home of her son, Jeff, in Urie, WY on April 29, 2012.
Evon was born March 5, 1927 in West Jefferson, North Carolina to Robert and Beatrice Poe. The family moved out west to Lima, Montana when she was three years old. At the age of 15, Evon came to Lyman to live with her married sister and go to school. She quickly met a handsome young man, Wayne Shelton, and they eloped to Pocatello, Idaho to be married on June 16, 1942. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on May 27, 1960. Together they raised four children, Glenn, Karen, Jennifer, and Jeff.
Evon was active in many callings in church. She served with her loving companion as Stake Missionaries and as temple workers in the Ogden LDS Temple. She also served many years in the ward primary and other callings.
She and Wayne enjoyed several bus tours throughout the United States and Canada, until Wayne passed away in 2003. Since then she has lived by herself with many visits from family and friends. She loved them, and they loved her back. She was always interested in what was going on in their lives.
Evon is survived by her four children and their spouses; Glenn (Lee Ann) of Vale, Oregon, Karen (Alan) Jones, Jennifer (Rudy) Aimone, and Jeff (Holly) Shelton, all of Bridger Valley. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, and 48 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, one brother; Albert, 2 sisters; Eveleen and Virginia, a grandson; John Wayne Heltz, and a great granddaughter; Mia Grace Shelton.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 4, at 11 am, at the Lyman LDS Stake Center in Urie, WY, with interment to follow at the Lyman Cemetery.
Visitations are planned for Thursday, May 3, at the Lyman Stake Center, from 6 – 8 pm, and also one hour prior to services on Friday.
