Pastor, Phillip Gene Rose
May 7, 1948-January 8,2015
In the early hours of January 8, 2015 Phil! went to be with the Lord. His wife,
Melanie earlier had sent family and friends home to rest. He passed gently as she
held him close. He was born In Fairfield, CA to John and Mary (Read) Rose of Woodland, CA. They both preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Kathryn and her husband Narve Little in Kiowa, OK; sister Wanda and her husband Clifford Winther of Woodland, CA; and his brother Albert Rose and his wife Helen of Carson City, NV. He graduated from Esparto High in Esparto, CA in 1966 and soon enlisted in the ARMY for 3 years to serve as a Demolitions Engineer. He served in Vietnam from May 1968 to May 1969. While stationed at Hunter Leggett Military Reserve by Camp Roberts and Big Sur, CA that fall, he met Melanie Martinez from Atascadero, CA. They married in March 1970. Seven weeks later he was sent to Korea serving part of that time on the DMZ mapping mines for the ARMY. He was a decorated Vietnam War hero, receiving 2 bronze stars for bravery in saving the lives of his men. During Vietnam he was promoted quickly like most young men. He was honorably discharged as an E6 non-com in Dec. 1970. Phill and Melanie had three children. Kimberly Kay Salyer (married to Pastor Jim
Salyer) of Evanston, WY, Beth Ann Rose Hulse of Wallowa, OR and Phillip Grant
Rose of Benton, South Carolina. After the military, Phill worked in carpentry and various other jobs before being called to ministry. In 1978 he graduated from Bethany University (formerly Bethany Bible College) Santa Cruz, CA with a degree in pastoral ministries . Phillip was an ordained minister of the General Council of the Assemblies of God from 1980 untill his present 'graduation'.
Phill served a one year internship at Paso Robles, CA Assembly of God, then took
his young family to Canby, OR where he pastored Neighborhood Assembly of God from 1979-1984. In Dec. of 1984 Phill answered a call to First Assembly of God in
Newberg, OR where he served for 20 years as senior pastor. The last 11 years he has served the Wyoming District Assembly of God pastoring, mentoring and teaching God's word. The last few years in Evanston at the Assembly of God has been one of the greatest joys of his life and recently said, "I've just fallen in love with these folks." He was an avid reader and a true historian having an ability to remember innumerable historical and Biblical facts and events. He loved to teach. Hunting was one of his favorite and most relaxing hobbies. He was a deeply devoted and passionate man and his grand children were such a
blessing to him. Katelynn Salyer of Cincinnati, OH, Amanda Salyer, Mattea Salyer
and Daniel and Caleb Salyer all of Evanston. Courtney Salyer, at 4 years old
preceded him to heaven in 2006 to be his 'tour guide'. Breanna Rose Hulse of Denver, CO, Travis Shay Hulse of Portland, OR, and Mary Beth and Faith Hulse of Wallowa, OR. Christina Marie Rose, Annabelle Marie Rose, Gavin Rose and Belladonna Rose of Enterprise, OR.
He is already greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and church
family.
Pastor Rose's Memorial Service will be held on Feb. 7, 2015 at Evanston Assembly
of God, 2190 Wasatch Rd, in Evanston, WY at 11:00 a.m. and the service will be
also presented on Skype and will be recorded. Following the service there will be
a meal served at the Machine Shop in old downtown Evanston.
All are welcome.
An honor guard will be present and the officiating minister will be Dennis
Holcomb, missionary to Poland and long time friend . At Phill's request he was cremated by Crandall's Funeral Home in Evanston, WY.
