Peggy Jean Raybourn Nixon passed from this life surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 2, 2020 in Evanston, Wyoming.
She is the daughter of Betty Jean and Harold "Shorty" Raybourn. She was raised a railroad man's daughter, along with her sisters, Carol, Jerri and Debbi, in Evanston.
She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Richard Nixon, on Feb. 8th, 1960. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They raised four children, Mark (Joan), Todd (Debbie), Scott (Linda), and Kristin Hopkin.
Peggy worked in the school district in many capacities, as a secretary, bus driver, bussing and janitorial administrator, and at age 50 enrolled at BYU and earned her education degree. She then taught for 16 years as a Title I teacher, helping many students reach their potential. She loved her students and the challenges each brought.
Charles and Peggy served an LDS church education mission to Lubbock, Texas, where they served as leaders for the young single adults in the area. They loved the young single adults, and continued working with them upon their return to Evanston.
Peggy was a devoted member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She served as Captain of Camp Heritage for several years, and President of the Uinta Wyoming Company for two years. She helped bring together and create long lasting relationships with the Daughters, and compiled and edited a book on the pioneers of Uinta and neighboring counties.
Peggy was a talented artist, poet, composer, and author. Her posterity inherits a written legacy of work to cherish.
Peggy leaves behind her devoted husband and children, 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, but most importantly a legacy of faith, loyalty, and a love of family.
