Norman S. “Nick” Hoyt, 80, passed away on December 10, 2022. He was born on October 16, 1942 in Coalville, Utah to Norman P. (Bill) and Melva (Schear) Hoyt. He married Merry Jean Woodman on January 31, 1976 in Springville, Utah. Nick graduated from South Summit High School in 1960. He attended Stevens Henegar College where he received an Associate Degree in Business Management and also graduated from the Western College of Auctioneering. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Nick was the meat cutter for the family-owned business, Hoyt’s Store, in Kamas where he was a perfectionist with his work. Later on he was employed by Park City Municipal in the snow removal and streets department. He retired from there in November 2011.Nick’s heart was always in ranching and riding horses. He ran his own ranching business pasturing cattle during the summers, taking full responsibility for the cattle like they were his own.

After he retired, he was able to buy his own cattle as well. He always included his family in ranching and riding and taught them the value of hard work. He was a natural “horse whisperer” in knowing how to have success in training horses. All animals seemed to love and respond well to him.

Nick is survived by his wife Merry, his son Bill (Julie), and his grandkids Nicholas and McKinley, both of whom he absolutely adored, and his sister Danna (Grant) Nielsen. Nick was loved and adored by his family who will miss him dearly.

Family and friends will gather at the Kamas L.D.S. Stake Center, 3038 SR 32, on Thursday, December 15, 2022 for a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to a graveside service at 12 noon in the Marion Cemetery.
