Myron Bell

April 21, 1940 — May 3, 2020

Evanston

Myron G Bell passed away peacefully on May 3, 2020 at Evanston Regional Hospital.  He was born on April 21, 1940, to George Walter and Hazel Evelyn (Isle) Bell at the family home in Evanston.  He was the youngest of 5 children.

Myron married Edie Mae Longhurst on May 20, 1964.  Married almost 56 years, they spent their lives together in Wyoming, Utah, and California.  When they were married, both Edie and Myron worked at Cazin and Houtz.

Myron’s career work was as an Operations Manager at AT&T.  He spent 25 years working in various sites for the company and had a wonderful career.  He remained a loyal friend to many of the people he worked with during his career.  He retired in 1989.  At that time, he and Edie moved back to Evanston to live during their retirement years.

Myron had a life full of great pleasures and loved to do many things.  He was a veteran of the United State Navy and cherished his Navy friends for his lifetime.  He was always most proud of his service to the country, and always donned a USS Bayfield cap on his bald head. He was a devoted husband and father. He was incredibly proud of his kids and the people that they became.  Included in his various activities and passions were supporting people with multiple sclerosis, acting in the local Sagebrush Theatre, fishing and walking the Bear River, coaching his girls in softball, creating art through woodworking, telling stories about growing up in Evanston, spoiling his grandkids, raising well fed beagles, and hanging out with Edie.  He was a great supporter of the community and spent many years working with the EHS Alumni Association on the annual class reunion.  He loved the BEAR Project, and donated often to various charities in the community.

Myron’s legacy is one of a simple man who had great pride in doing all things well.  He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Edie, and their children Raymond Leon Bell of Salt Lake City, Kari Ynes of Evanston, Joy Bell (Jim Hill) of Evanston, and Stephanie Harris (David) of Fairfield, CA.  He also leaves behind two grandchildren, David Ynes of Evanston and Zachary Lennan of Butte Valley, CA.  He is also survived by his brother Leon Bell (Joyce) of Casper, WY; brother-in-law Lee Longhurst of Laramie, and sisters-in-law Elaine Longhurst of Evanston, Lois Jean Longhurst of Laramie, WY; and his ever devoted dog, Chauncey Beagle.

Myron was preceded in death by his father and mother, and sisters, Joyce Limb and Roma Perkins.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Melissa Foster and Dr. Ian Kendrick and the many people at Evanston Regional Hospital who took such good care of him during the last days of his life.  We couldn’t have asked for better care than he received.  Myron’s preference was to make donations to causes that matter – so we would ask that you make such a donation to a cause that matters to you and your family in his memory.  His favorites included the BEAR Project, Wyoming Community Foundation, St. Jude’s Hospital, an Alzheimer’s/dementia foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the American Cancer Society.

Cremation has taken place.  Services will be delayed until this summer, when all who knew Myron can gather and share stories and their remembrances of him.  Heaven got a good one.
