Our dear mother and grandmother, Mona G. Leavitt, 96, passed away peacefully in Brigham City, Utah on January 12, 2016.
She was born in Woodland, Utah on April 1, 1919 to Clifton and Frances Ellen (Chamberlain) Gines.
She attended school in Kamas. On September 4, 1937 she married Dale James Leavitt. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and never wavered from its principles. She served as a missionary with her husband Dale in Iowa. She accepted every calling and was a force for good.
She mothered her children and grandchildren and there was never any doubt as to what was expected. Sometimes it was silent, often not. She was an example of faith and courage to all.
Mona was an expert seamstress, sewing western shirts for her boys and dresses for her daughter, and granddaughters. Also for her nieces, and her sister. She was a good partner and a hard worker. They had a sawmill business and a farm. There was always plenty to do. Later she was the office manager for the Leavitt Lumber Company.
Mom was the family Chairman of Entertainment. She led the way in boating, skiing, and competitive card playing. She would drag Dale away to have fun.
