Our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, cousin and friend, Mitch, age 79, passed on March 31, 2016 in Evanston, WY, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Mitch was born Aug. 21, 1936, to Mike and Louise Tangaro Makris in Sunnyside, Utah. Raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, he graduated from South High School where he was a member of the 1955 State Championship football team. Mitch attended Westminster College and Western Montana College where he was inducted into their Football Hall of Fame.
He married Bonnie Sims May 14, 1964, and they lived in many western cities, finally settling in Evanston, WY. Mitch taught high school in Dillon, MT. and Price, Utah, where he also coached many sports. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation as a Corpman residential and recreational supervisor and later for the Department of Labor as Project Manager over seeing Job Corp Centers in five western states. He was instrumental in guiding the lives of many job corp graduates in a positive, successful direction. Mitch owned Mickey’s Hamburger Stand in Evanston where he used his culinary skills to serve the most delicious hamburgers and his knack for story telling to entertain his customers.
To know Mitch was to experience joy, hospitality, love and witty sarcasm. He loved to go “Antiquing” throughout the country with Bonnie and friends which has culminated in a home full of unusual and exquisite furniture, glassware, and memorabilia. In his lifetime he endured many medical setbacks with dignity and humor and we will all dearly miss him.

Mitch is survived by his sons Rick Makris and Bruce Hartzell, sister Sophie Wondolowski (Joe), caring and dear friend sister-in-law Janet Kindler, grand daughter Kelsey Makris, grandsons Jason Makris(Danielle), Ty Makris, Trevor (Jenny), Jed (Laurie), and Casey(Jana) Hartzell, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many wonderful and faithful friends.
