Mildred Vercimak

January 11, 1921 — November 6, 2021

Lyman, WY

Mildred Rose Youngberg Vercimak, 100, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend passed away November 6, 2021.

Mildred was born January 11, 1921, to Adolph Werner Youngberg and Rosa Barbara Fillin.  She was the sixth of eight children.  Mildred was born and raised on a ranch North of Lyman.  She graduated from Lyman High School in 1938.  Just two weeks after graduating, she went to work at the Lyman Post Office.  Her career with the U.S. Postal Office Department and the U.S. Postal Service spanned more than 40 years.  During her career, she worked as the Senior Career Clerk in Lyman and acting Postmaster in Stansbury, Wyoming.  She was recognized for her service with several awards.  The most prestigious was the Supervisor Accomplishment Award.  At the time, Mildred was the only recipient from a third class post office to ever have received this award.  She was also proud of being on time for work every day of her 40 plus years. She said that for a job she didn’t even ask for, it sure lasted a long time. She retired in 1978.

On January 3, 1939, Mildred married Mike Vercimak.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on March 21, 1981.  After their marriage, Mike’s employment took them to several different places – Hampton, Wyoming where he worked for the railroad, Winton, Wyoming where he worked in the coal mine and Stansbury, Wyoming where he also worked in the coal mine.  They bought a ranch in Lyman in 1945 and would eventually settle there to raise their family.

Mildred was known as the caretaker of the family.  She cared for her mother-in-law, her brother and her husband in their declining years. She was always available to care for members of the family on either side.  She loved and appreciated family above all else.  Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were the joy of her life. She often attended sporting events and school activities to support them.

Mildred was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served in many callings: Relief Society Visiting Teacher (50+ years), Relief Society Supervisor (16 years), Sunday School Teacher, Stake Missionary and German Extraction Program (6 years).  Mildred was President of the Lyman High School Alumni.  She also served as an essay judge for the Miss Wyoming Teenage Pageant.  Mildred loved sewing and quilting.  She dabbled in poetry. She enjoyed family parties and reunions.  She spent many hours going to the senior citizen center and participating in their activities and trips. She was always an avid Utah Jazz basketball fan.

Mildred is survived by her sons, Michael (Brenda) Vercimak of Hurricane, UT and Preston (Katherine) Vercimak of Lyman, WY, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband (Mike), her son (Don Allen), four brothers, three sisters and two great-grandsons.
