Michael L. Olson
July 29, 1970 – July 19, 2016
Mike left this mortal life on July 19, 2016 enjoying life on the Middle Fork River near Salmon, ID. Mike was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 29, 1970 to Darrel and Joan Olson and later moved to Spring City, Utah where he spent most of his youth.
Mike graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1988 and served a mission in Bordeaux, France for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1989 thru 1991. Mike met his dear sweetheart Lisa while attending Snow College; Mike and Lisa were married in the Manti Temple on July 10, 1993. Mike graduated from Snow College in 1993 and from Southern Utah University with a Bachelors of Art degree in language in 1995 and a Master of Education degree in 2006. He taught at Crescent View Middle School in Sandy, UT before becoming the Elementary School Principal in Challis, ID and then Principal of the Intermediate School in Lyman, WY. He cherished his time as an educator and loved each student and staff members of every school.
Mike loved his children and wife with all of his heart. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, and camping most especially with family and friends. He served faithfully in in several church positions including as Bishopric Counselor, Young Men President, Elders Quorum Counselor, Executive Secretary, and Scout Master.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents and his uncle Keith H. Sorensen who also filled the role of Grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Lisa; his sons Craig, Jacob (Yakima Washington Mission), and Benjamin; and his daughter Janessa. He is also survived by his parents Darrel and Joan Olson, Lisa’s parents Von Lee and Susan Childs, his siblings Dan (Amy) Olson, Susan (Mike) Black, Christopher (Rachel) Olson, Tiffany (Whitney) Allred, and Stephanie (Dallas) Sorensen; his in-laws Kevin Child, Jenny (James) Dover; and several aunts and uncles including Roberta Sorensen who he also regarded as Grandmother.
The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to the Limhi County Search and Rescue, Limhi County Sherriff’s Office, and the Two Bear Air Rescue. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the Challis community and Challis Ward and the Lyman community and Lyman 2nd Ward. We express sincere appreciation to the Jones and Casey Funeral Home, Salmon, ID and the Crandall Funeral Home, Evanston, WY for their professional and personal touch allowing Mike to return to his Heavenly Father.
Closed casket visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the Lyman Stake Center, Urie, WY. The funeral will be held at 10 AM on Monday, August 1, 2016 also at the Lyman Stake Center. Mike L. Olson will be laid to rest at the Spring City, Utah cemetery on August 1, 2016.
