Melvin Gerd Elsen passed away peacefully at the age of 80, on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who will remember him as a great story teller and the life of the party.
Mel was born on March 6, 1933 to Herman Elsen and Martha Zimmerman Elsen in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
He had 8 years of National Guard and Army with Company A 70th Engineer Battalion and Reserves after being honorably discharged.
He married Priscilla “Chris” Olguin in Boise, Idaho on June 23, 1962. They lived in Indiana and later relocated to Evanston, Wyoming in the 1980’s. He was Owner/Broker of Century 21, and Elsen Realty. Recent illness forced his semi-retirement, but continued with buying, remodeling, and selling property.
He is survived by his wife, Chris, his sons Ronald (Sharon) Elsen of Council Grove, Kansas; Scott (Wendy) Elsen of Evanston, Wyoming, and Paul Elsen of Evanston, Wyoming; his daughters Lisa (Paul) Carter of Sandy, Utah, and Cheryl Elsen of Kansas. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dean (Kendra) Elsen and Desiree Elsen of Counsil Grove, Kansas; Lauren & Maddie Carter of Sandy, Utah; Colby, Logan, & Maria Elsen of Evanston, Wyoming; Kaid Elsen of Evanston, Wyoming, and great grandchildren, Jason, Colton, & Kasten Elsen, nieces & nephews in Iowa, Kansas, and Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved grandson Derek Elsen; brother Jay Elsen & sisters Sally & Frieda.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston, Wyoming. A viewing will be held at the funeral home prior to services from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. Interment will follow at the Evanston City Cemetery.
His wishes were to have a celebration of life by family and friends following services at his home.
