Mary Mitchell

Mary was born on September 26, 1943 in Palo Alto CA. to Frank and Mary Elizabeth James. Mary did many amazing things in her life time. She had 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls from different marriages. She was one of the first women in the Trona Mine that was at the time called Allied Chemical. In 1979 Mary met Bill Mitchell and in May of that year they were married. They combined their families together for a total of 11 children. In 1992 Mary was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Mary decided that she would go back to school. She chose Psychology for her major. Mary attended NIC in Coeur d’ Alene Idaho. When she first started school she was walking with the help of crutch canes. When she finished she was in a wheelchair. At the time there were a lot of places in North Idaho that were not handicapped accessible. When she was done they were. She received her Master’s Degree in 2002. Shortly thereafter they moved to the Wasatch Front. Mary wanted to attend the University of Utah. That never happened. Mary and Bill served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mary had many issues with her health throughout her lifetime. She spent a great deal of time in and out of different hospitals and nursing facilities. In one of these visits she had a blood transfusion and contracted Hepatitis C. In March of 2012 it became too hard for Bill to continue to care for Mary at home. They moved to Evanston WY, where Mary took up residence at Rocky Mountain Nursing Center and Bill at an apartment in the Pines. Mary greatly enjoyed the time she had at RMC with all of her new friends and some old ones as well. On January 15, 2014 Mary passed quietly away in the presence of her loving family and friends at Rocky Mountain Care after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and Liver Failure. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mary Elizabeth James.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 2 pm at Rocky Mountain Care in Evanston, WY.
