Martin L. Smith, age 79, passed away at Evanston Regional Hospital in Evanston, WY. on April 18, 2014. He was born on November 2, 1934 in Fort Collins, Colorado, the son of Martin Leslie and Alene Viola (Hicks) Smith. He was the baby brother of five older sisters. Martin lived and attended school in Walden, Colorado. When he was nine, his family moved to Fort Collins where he finished his schooling. He married Joy Juvenall and they had two children, Alan Leslie, and Debra Lynn. Martin and Joy later divorced. On June 30, 1968 Martin married Janis Bartschi, along with her son, Cameron John. Martin and Janis were married for 45 years. To this union were born a daughter, Melanie Anne and a son, Martin Laurence (Marty).
Martins career was auto body repair which he began at age 17. He owned his first shop in 1956 when he was 22 yrs. Of age. A few years were spent as a State Farm Insurance Adjuster. For the last 29 years he was owner of Smith’s Auto Body in Evanston, WY. he was known for his quality of work and his honesty. He helped many stranded motorists who had been caught in Wyoming weather.
Martin was a pilot who loved flying and he enjoyed working on his own planes. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved being in the outdoors and camping with his family.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents, and all five sisters; Lila Forbes, Eleanor Hughes, Joyce Martin, Edna Carlson, & Frances Bujack.
Martin is survived by his wife, Janis Smith, of Evanston, WY.; children, Debby Burk of Manitou Springs, CO.; Alan Smith of Casper, WY.; Cameron John, of Evanston, WY.; Melanie (Ken) Riel, of Laramie, WY.; and Marty (Tonya) Smith, of Woodland Park, CO. Martin is survived by eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Martin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Crandall Funeral Home, Evanston, WY. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Evanston South Stake Center, with Bishop Dee Dillree officiating. There will be a viewing at the church one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Interment and graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Providence City Cemetery, Providence, UT.
