Marilyn Brown

September 4, 1934 — March 31, 2022

Peoa, Utah

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marilyn Ruth Jensen Brown, passed away at her home in Peoa, Utah on March 31, 2022, at the age of 87.

Marilyn was born on September 4, 1934, in Logan, Utah to Preston Jay and Maxine Abbigail (Stewart) Jensen. The oldest of 5 children, she learned from an early age the value of hard work, perseverance, and faith. She also learned to love sports, playing games, cooking, sewing, gardening, and reading.

She married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Brown, on June 1, 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Over the course of their almost 68 years of marriage, they lived in Germany, India, Texas, California, Georgia, Ogden, and Peoa. They welcomed seven children into their family, along with 37 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren (with four more on the way). She was a spot-less housekeeper, who personified the phrase, “A place for everything and everything in its place.” One of her most amazing traits was her ability to remember everyone’s names (along with spouses) and never missing a birthday!

Marilyn was also known for her deep faith in and love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a constant and consistent reader of the scriptures. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Marilyn served faithfully in many callings in the Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society organizations, changing many lives along the way. An early example of this was when she was called to be the Relief Society President in the Kaiserslautern Germany Serviceman’s branch, despite being a young wife and mother. With her typical hard work and organizational skills, she successfully led the branch’s first fundraising effort for the construction of the Kaiserslautern Germany stake center. She blessed the lives of many women and families across the years and across the world. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers where she enjoyed meeting with others and learning more about her pioneer heritage.

Throughout her life she continued to enjoy reading, sewing, and traveling.  She took special joy in the accomplishments of her husband, children, and grandchildren. Serving with her husband as he presided over the California San Diego mission and later serving in the India Bangalore mission were highlights of her life. She wore out her life in the service of her family and others and she will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Thomas E. Brown; and children, Cathy (John) Ure, Susan (Frank) Siddoway, Mark (Michele) Brown, Jeff (Cheryl) Brown, David (Anna) Brown, Steven (Melanie) Brown, and Julie (David) Peterson; her brother Merv Jensen and sister Kristie Looslie.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a beautiful granddaughter, and two precious infant great granddaughters.

Special thanks to Dr. Gregory Iverson for his dedicated and compassionate care and to the Summit County sheriff deputies and paramedics for their resuscitative efforts.
