Marian Hickey

April 3, 1931 — April 26, 2023

Lonetree

Marian Hopkin Hickey passed away on April 26, 2023, at her home in Lonetree WY. Marian was born in Ogden UT on April 3, 1931 to Fanny May Stuart and James Vernon Hopkin.  Marian was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She truly loved the gospel and her Savior Jesus Christ. Marian grew up in Woodruff UT on the family ranch that she loved dearly, always talking about her fond memories on the ranch, on the Bear River, and on the range. She was blessed with two younger brothers James and Stuart. Then her best friend was born, her sister Millie. Millie and Marian loved any chance they had to be together. Her younger brother Bill was born 10 years later. Her life in Woodruff was full of adventure. She went to grade school in Woodruff and then graduated from South Rich High School. Then continued her education at BYU. Marian met the love of her life at the Rich County Fair and rodeo where she was the Rodeo Queen. She caught the eye of a young cowboy and bronc rider Alfred Jack Hickey. They were married July 8, 1952. They were later sealed in the Ogden Ut temple August 6, 2019. They made their home in Lonetree Wyoming where they lived together for 66 years. During their life in Lonetree they were blessed with four children; Joe V. Mike, Louise, and Jim. Who all still reside there.

Marian loved her family. They are definitely her greatest treasures. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all have fond memories of her reading, playing, and picnicking with them.

Marian found joy in the simple things. She exemplified the word homemaker. She made fresh bread everyday for her family. She loved to cook and bake. She made the best lunches and always wanted to make sure her family had vegetables; if they were eating at the kitchen table or out in the hills. She studied about cooking and constantly worked to find new and better ways to feed her family and the men that worked on the ranch.

Marian had many hobbies. She loved watching birds. During her many hours washing dishes, she enjoyed watching the birds she fed in the driveway and the hummingbirds that came to her feeder. She loved her yard. She spent many hours working in the yard and truly made her home a beautiful place with the flowers she grew. Marian enjoyed making jewelry and made many beautiful necklaces and bracelets. She enjoyed woodworking projects and refinished many beautiful antiques. She thoroughly enjoyed going to antique shows with her sister Millie. They loved antiques but mostly they loved their time together. This was also a special treat for many of her children and grandchildren as we often had the privilege of driving her down to the antique show. During these times she would teach us all about the old antiques and how they were used.

Marian's true treasure was her family and the place they all call home. She loved her home in Lonetree. Her favorite part about going anywhere was coming home to Lonetree, but what made it so special was that her family all lived there. She made a lot of meals, picked a lot of rocks and sticks to make special memories working together with the ones she loved the most.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Jack Hickey. Her parents May and Vern Hopkin. Her brothers James and Stuart Hopkin. Her great granddaughter Finnley May Kennedy, and her Great Grandson Houston James Hartley.

She is survived by her four children Joe V. (Cindy) Hickey, Michael Jack (Trudy) Hickey, Louise (Keith) Kennedy, and James Eugene (Julie) Hickey. Her 13 grandchildren, their spouses, and 41 great grandchildren. Her sister Millie (James) Albertson and brother Bill Hopkin.

We would like to give a special thanks to Cowboy Cares especially to Sara Hooten for her diligent and thoughtful care for Marian.
