Marge “Grams” June Compton, 77, of Lyman, Wyoming passed away April 22, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to complications in surgery. She was born June 24, 1936 in Rosalie, Nebraska to parents Roy “Bud” and Margaret E. Freel. Marge grew up in Moffat, Colorado towards the end of the Great Depression, sixth of nine children. She grew to value all things, always saying, “Waste not.” After graduating high school she moved to Hartsel, Colorado where she waitressed and was able to buy herself as many boxes of raisins, bananas and shoes as she wanted.
Marge married Joe Taylor in 1957, was widowed, and later remarried Danny Compton on December 7, 1966. They later divorced.
Marge worked at the Jim Bridger Club for many years where she was very involved in fundraisers of many kinds for Bridger Valley. She was always there to help anyone in need or donate to a cause. She was given Bridger Valley’s Guardian Angel award for all of her involvement in the community. Marge dedicated her life to her family and was the most giving person, always willing to help others in any way she could. She enjoyed spending time with family, collecting cookie jars, yard selling, watching football, especially her Denver Broncos, and traveling to Wendover.
Marge is survived by her children Bob (Diane) Taylor of Ft. Bridger, WY; Joe Taylor of Moffat, CO.; Grandchildren Amber (Chris) Hofeldt, Brian Taylor, Larry Ellison, Joe Taylor, Jake Lorenzo, Eddy Lorenzo and many more she adopted along the way; Great grandchildren Myles & Madilyn Hofeldt; brother Gene Freel of Moffat CO.
She was preceded in death by siblings Marie Mallot, Pont Freel, Gordon Freel, Jerold Freel, Ed Freel, Chloe Clayton, and Karen Freel; and the love of her life, George Byrne.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11 am in the American Legion Hall, Ft. Bridger, WY. Interment will follow services at the Ft. Bridger Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation be made in Marge Compton’s name to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, she was passionate about helping others, and donated to them regularly.
Memorial Services will be conducted on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Fort Bridger Legion Hall, with Pastor Joe Galvin officiating. Inurnment will follow services at the Fort Bridger Cemetery, Fort Bridger, WY.
