Emblem

Louis Potter, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2025, with his family by his side.

Louis was born in Hatchtown (Washam), WY, October 4, 1939, to Timothy and Bertha Nelson Potter. He was the 12th of 13 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Timothy, Lafayette, Burl, Everett, Dee, Skip, Vern; sisters Fontella, Eleanor, Reva, Rena and daughter Debbie.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia, daughter Lola (Brud) Gardiner, son Ryan (Lorrissia) Potter, grandsons Brailen, Taygin and Shawn, granddaughters, Erin and Brandy and a brother Dave (Kaye) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Louis spent his early years helping his family with the sheep, spending summers in the sheep camp with his brother Dave and then later, starting at the age of 11 or 12, working for Keith Smith on his own minding sheep in the mountains.

He graduated from Manila High School in 1957. Louis received a trip from the Army in 1963 and was stationed in Korea for two years during the Vietnam conflict.

He was honorably discharged in 1969 (four years of that being reserve) at the rank of Sergeant. Louis worked in the construction industry the majority of his life, operating heavy equipment and welding.

He worked on the construction of the Flaming Gorge Dam and the road between Manila and Vernal, UT. He was a master at constructing roads, ponds, and gas/oil well locations. He was also a very accomplished welder as well as handcrafting many bits for family and friends for their horses.

Louis was a loving, hard-working, fun-loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was known for his skills as a cook and was always willing to jump in and help. His sourdough pancakes, bread and dutch oven potatoes were some of the best and he was always sharing with friends.

He enjoyed a good horse, roping, camping, and following his kids wherever their adventures took them. Dad wanted no services, but we will be planning a celebration of life when the weather is warmer.
