Allen can now walk!

Allen passed away Nov. 22, 2019 at the George E Wahlen Veterans home in Ogden, Utah surrounded by family. He was born Sept. 8, 1946 in Rock Springs, WY to Louis R. and Margaret Allen Hamblin. Allen married Barbara Stringer on Nov. 23, 1984 in the Jordan River Temple.

Allen graduated from Mountain View High School in 1965.  He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the England South Mission. He attended and graduated from BYU, later he obtained a Masters Degree from the University of Wyoming.  Allen served in the US Army in Vietnam.  He was assigned to intelligence and went to Texas to learn Vietnamese. While in Vietnam he worked covertly to interrogate and identify the enemy. He received several commendations for his expertise.

After graduating from BYU, Allen excelled in a few occupations, including Journeyman Plumber and found his niche as a  Middle School teacher in the Lyman School District.  He loved teaching the ‘Range of the Strange’  as he called them. He was admired and loved by many of his students and co-workers.  He coached in several positions, Golf, High School and Middle School swim coach. He was named as State Girls Swim Coach of the Year for the 2003-04 season.

Allen is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served in many different capacities throughout his lifetime.

Allen enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping with his children and loved gardening. He enjoyed doodling and was a closet artist.  He was often found helping grandchildren with school projects.

He was a kind and soft spoken man, much like his mother.  Allen loved people and was very social.  He is missed greatly by his family, and many friends.

Allen is survived by his wife, Barbara of 35 years, 5 children; Bree (Eric) Giles, AJ Hamblin, Mike Hamblin, Alayna (Josh) Roitz and Blake (Bailey) Hamblin.  13 grandchildren; Cayden, Brinley, Makelle Giles; Emry, Jersey, Beck Hamblin; Eliza, Kyle, Avy, Perry, Talmage Roitz; Henry and Molly Hamblin.  He is survived by 9 siblings, Barbara (David) Slagowski, Ann Copelan, Susan Johnston, Jack (Celinda) Hamblin, Ellen (Garth) Walker, Scott (Laurie) Hamblin, Julie (Jim) Hickey, Lynn (Jim) Weston and Jim (Paula) Hamblin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Graysen Allen Giles,  two brothers in law, Kirk Copelan and Paul Johnston, one sister in law Shannon Buckner Hamblin.

Visitation will be held at the Urie, WY Stake Center Friday, Nov. 29, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. and Saturday morning from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11:00 am.

Interment will be in the Lyman Wyoming Cemetery.
