Lonnie Cazin

Lonnie T Cazin 1/14/1940 ~ 05/21/2022

Lonnie passed away on Saturday May 21st, 2022 in Layton, Utah surrounded by her loving family-heaven gained a true angel.  She was born on January 14, 1940 in Logan, Utah to George Winegar & Alta Bush Winegar—and was the oldest of 3 children—they later divorced and at age 9 her mother married Sherman Arnold Taylor.  He adopted her and her 2 siblings and he became the best daddy ever—from that she gained an older brother and then 3 younger sisters, she loved and adored each one of her siblings.

She married Evan W. Adams on December 22, 1955 in Layton, Utah-they had 3 children-Scott, Sheldon and Sheryl—they were married for 21 years before they divorced.  By a chance meeting she met Roger W. Cazin in Evanston, Wyoming in July of 1976 and they were married June 25, 1977 and later sealed in the Ogden Utah Temple on June 25, 2002-their 25th wedding anniversary.  Evanston became her beloved home for the next 44 years.

Lonnie was in the first graduating class from Central Davis Jr. High in Layton, Utah and was on the committee that picked the school colors and mascot.  Later in life she fulfilled a lifelong dream and earned her GED in 2002 from the Life Long Learning Center in Evanston, Wyoming.

Lonnie had many talents-cake decorating-crocheting-and family history to name a few.  She and Roger had their own coin business “Cazin’s Cache” and they enjoyed creating their own collection, she also worked at the family business “Cazin’s” and was very instrumental in its growth.  Lonnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel.  She served in many calling-but primary was dear to her heart—she loved children.  For 10 summers she ran an ice cream truck called “Gramma’s Yum-Yum’s” and enjoyed selling ice cream to the local kids-she also filled in as “Mrs. Claus” and visited the elementary school children at Christmas time.

Her life was one filled with service to others—her husband Roger had muscular dystrophy and she was his full time care giver until a few years ago when her health wouldn’t allow her to physically do that anymore.  She was one to always put the needs of others before her own and was quick to give out a compliment or a smile to anyone she’d see.  She had a knack of making everyone feel special and loved.

She especially loved Hershey’s chocolate, ice cold milk, miracle whip, butterflies, and the color purple-she would tell you “is there any other color?”

Lonnie was very dedicated to her family and loved each one of us so much-she made so many trips from Evanston to Layton to attend family events and never missed a chance to say I love you.  To know Lonnie was to love her- it couldn’t be helped she was just so easy to love.

Lonnie is survived by her children: Scott E. (Les) Adams, Sheldon L. (Lana) Adams, and Sheryl (David) Kippen, all of Layton, 6 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, her 4 sisters-Jean, Charlene, Sharma and Mickie, her brother in law Gordon (Terrie) Cazin and sisters in law Carol McCain and Ann Cazin.  She was preceded in death by her husband Roger W. Cazin, her parents and her 2 brothers Darrell and Lee Taylor.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to their dear friends who served her and Roger in countless ways over the years and to the wonderful staff at Sunridge Assisted Living and Atlas Homecare and Hospice of Layton who so lovingly cared for her for the past 15 months.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 1st, 2022 @ 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center located at 721 W Cheyenne Dr. Evanston, Wyoming.  A viewing will be held Tuesday May 31st from 6-8pm and from 9:30-10:30am prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the Stake Center.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Primary Children’s Medical Center in her honor.
