Lloyd Lanning

February 15, 1929 — April 10, 2017

Lloyd J. Lanning passed away peacefully at his home in Evanston, Wyoming on April 10, 2017, at the age of eighty-eight.
Lloyd was born in Dawson, Nebraska on February 15, 1929.  He was the son of Joseph Leander Lanning and Clara Edith (Lefler) Lanning.  Lloyd was the oldest of seven siblings, three brothers and three sisters.
He grew up on his grandpa’s farm in Dawson and later moved to Anoka, Minnesota where he graduated from high school.
Lloyd enlisted in the Air Force in July of 1947 and served in the Korean War.  He was stationed in Roy, UT, Alamogordo, NM, San Antonio, TX and Japan as an airplane engine mechanic and also a flight engineer.  He received the Army Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Lloyd married Peggy Jean Brown on March 10, 1951 in Evanston, Wyoming.  Their first home was in Roy, Utah where he was stationed at Hill Air Force Base.
After he was discharged from the service, Lloyd and Peggy made their home in Evanston, Wyoming.
In 1959, Lloyd went to work for Mark Elmer at Evanston Motor Company.  He worked for Dave Madia (Mark’s son-in-law) at the same company as a mechanic and service manager for 35 years, until he retired.  After retiring, he travelled many times to Alaska to fish with Dave, Marlin and other good friends.  Lloyd also enjoyed having daily morning coffee with his friends.
Lloyd was a member of The American Legion Department of Wyoming.  He enjoyed working with teens and helping to promote the American Legion Auxiliary’s Wyoming Boy and Girl’s State.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Lloyd loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  He also loved working with his hands building rocking horses for his grandchildren.  He built and remodeled homes for his children.
Lloyd is survived by his two sisters Ruth Ann LaHaise and Edith Marie (James) Fisher of Minnesota.  He is also survived by his daughter, Vicki (Brad) Kennedy, son, Michael (Julie) Lanning, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Lanning, his parents, brothers, Wallace Robert and Jerrald Richard and sisters, Arleta Jo Humphreys and Virgie Lee.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 14, 2017 at Crandall Funeral Home, at 11:00 am, with a viewing one hour prior.  Interment will follow services at the Evanston City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
