Lisa Tolman

October 24, 1954 — December 9, 2015

Lisa Gaye Tolman (Elkington), age 61, passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2015 in Evanston, Wyoming

Lisa was born in Wellington, New Zealand on Oct 24th, 1954 to John Arthur and Waitohi Elkington.  Along with 8 loving siblings, Lisa was raised in the strength of the Gospel and a rich legacy of faith in her beautiful home country “Aotearoa”.  She attended The Church College of New Zealand where she met and fell in love with her eternal companion-to-be from America, Jon Elliott Tolman.  Lisa and Jon were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple in October of 1975.
The newlyweds attended BYU-Hawaii where Lisa’s family were serving as church labor missionaries and where she enjoyed dancing and sharing her rich heritage at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii.  Sharing her faith and culture to lift and enrich others was a labor of love for Lisa and which she proudly gave of so freely.

Lisa and Jon relocated to California and later to Pleasant Grove, Ut, then to Emery County, Utah for 7 years and finally settled in Evanston, Wyoming in 1992.  With every move and in each location, Lisa made fast friends and tender relationships as she devoted her life and energy to the happiness of her family and those around her.
Lisa’s passion for service and sociality continued as an employee of the Uinta County School District where she worked with and was surrounded by children and colleagues whom she truly loved.

Of all her accomplishments, Lisa’s greatest achievements were in the lives of her family and friends. She possessed a unique gift to recognize and appreciate the talents in others and to make them feel loved and lifted by her presence.  Her brilliant smile, contagious laugh, and generous heart filled her surroundings with love, culture, family and friends.  She leaves all of her children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved and they know that she loved the Lord.

She is preceded in death by her father John Arthur, her sister Maralyn, and survived by her husband Jon, her 5 children Rick, Tai, Pania, Melani, Matson, her 17 grandchildren, her mother Waitohi, and her 8 surviving siblings.
