After being discharged the young couple left Tennessee and traveled to Elkhart, Kansas to his mother’s home while James (Jim) looked for work. Her trip to Kansas was a new experience for Linda, on the way she experienced a black dust storm in Dodge City, Kansas. She had never seen a dust storm in Tennessee. To her it was a terrible thing. Later she wrote her sister Gertie in Tennessee with the following statement, “My God what have I done?” you cannot see across the street in Dodge City.
Linda Gayle Lane McCrea and husband James E. McCrea had two children, a son Ronald Dale McCrea, born in Liberal, Kansas and a daughter Carolyn Sue McCrea, born in Perryton, Texas. Mr. McCrea had gotten work in the oil and gas industry which through the years caused them to live in many places in the central part of America.
Linda Gayle was a very active mother taking much interest in the activities of their two children. Those activities began with little league sports which included track meets, football, baseball, and F.F.A. projects, later 4H shooting sports and grandchildren along with children of other parents who were active with their children in the sport. All people are born with a special talent in something; probably of the many things she did her special talent was the ability to sing and to sew. She made beautiful shirts for her husband of the Pendleton Class, as he had advanced in the industry and she thought he should dress better.
Linda Gayle loved hunting and fishing, she made numerous vacations to fish in the Atlantic Ocean with her husband and has caught many large fish on those trips. Hunting her trophies included bear in Northern Manitoba Canada, several deer and antelope in Wyoming, and buffalos in Idaho. Linda caught several big trout in the Flaming Gorge of the Green River, many weighing close to thirty pounds.
Mr. and Mrs. McCrea were blessed with six grandchildren; Michael Raymond McCrea, Rock Springs, Tyler James McCrea, Rock Springs, one set of triplets, Rachael Lynn Scott Deyle, Billings Montana, Nathan James Scott, Gillette, Justin Wayne Scott, Gillette, and the youngest being Clinton Cole Scott, Gillette. One great granddaughter; Scottie Lynn Creed, Billings Montana.
After leaving Texas when their daughter Carolyn Sue was born, the family lived in Denver, Colorado, Gillette, Wyoming, Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Evanston, Wyoming. Linda Gayle finished her life at her country home south of Evanston, Wyoming among the finest neighbors anyone could ever hope to have. She passed away peacefully with her family at her country home.
