Leon Wilde

January 24, 1927 — February 12, 2016

Leon Pearson Wilde (affectionately known as Hoss) hung up his spurs for the last time early Friday Morning February 12, 2016.  He was a giant of a man who has left a huge hole in the hearts of his Sweetheart of 66 years and four cherished daughters.

He was born to Gilbert Wilde and Vera Elizabeth Pearson on January 24, 1927 in the family home in Oakley, Utah the 8th of 12 children. His father passed away when he was 8 years old and he grew up living off the land as a dairy farmer and cattle rancher.  At age 17 he enlisted in the US Army and left for basic training shortly after his 18th birthday.  He served in Korea and then returned home to his beloved Oakley.

He married Peggy Rees of Coalville on September 1, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS temple.  Together they have a great legacy of children with four daughters; Barbara Dianne Freeman (Dale) of Boise ID, Sheri Kaye Leavitt (Kent) of Kamas UT, Teresa LaRae Stevens (David) of Oakley UT and Carolyn Woods (Gary) of Ridgway CO. , 17 Grandchildren, and 38 Great Grandchildren.  They are already missing the Smarties, the cheese and pickle Sunday nights, just bumming around with grandpa, and four wheeler rides he handed out freely.

He was a master horseman, rodeo cowboy and pickup man, an award winning Jersey Dairy farmer and Beef Cattle rancher.  He served for 20 years as Deputy Sheriff of Summit County where he made friends with all he met.  He was blessed with an amazing ability to converse with anyone and make them feel like his best friend in a matter of minutes. He served for many years as president of the New Field North Bench Irrigation Company.  He had received multiple awards for his expertise in agriculture.

He is survived by his wife, a sister Berta Potter (Oakley), a brother Keith Wilde (Enid) of Morgan and two sisters-in-law Ruth Wllde of Brown Lee NE and Louise Wilde of Oakley;  also his dear cousin, he considered a sister, Louise Bearden of  St. George, UT
Preceded in death by siblings Elva Thomas, Sam Wilde, Emery Wilde, Ruth Moore, Beth Casper, Brinton Wilde, Lois Snapp, Ile Wilde, and Devon Wilde.
