Leon R. “Cowboy” Draper
Leon Richard “Cowboy” Draper, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend returned to his Heavenly Father and into the loving arms of his parents and brother on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, UT.
Leon was born on March 16, 1944 in Heber City, Utah to Richard J. and Helen LaVona (Hendricksen) Draper. He grew up in Midway Utah in a neighborhood full of boys where they created much havoc, fun, and many great memories. His childhood also included working hard and playing on the family farm in Wallsburg Utah. He graduated from Wasatch High School.
Cowboy loved his country and served in Germany, in the Army during the Vietnam conflict.
He married Thressa Lyn Danner and they later divorced.
He lived the majority of his adult life in Elko and Lamoille Nevada under the Ruby Mountains which he dearly loved. From early in life, he was quite the entrepreneur starting up many different companies, but he enjoyed most working for the telephone company from which he retired.
He loved working with and showing horses, collecting coins and coo coo clocks, watching Dallas Cowboy football, and working hard on his property.
He was fortunate to return and live the last few years in his beloved Wallsburg.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Jon) Provost of Wallsburg, brother Carl (Geri) Draper of American Fork, and 5 grandchildren; Joshua, Alexa (Mack) Adams, Adaire, Bryce, and Matthew. Preceeded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Val and Kathy Draper.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Wallsburg LDS Chapel at 494 West Main Canyon Road, Wallsburg, Utah. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in the Midway City Cemetery, Midway, Utah.
