Lela Calder

April 17, 1928 — December 28, 2016

"Together Again"
Lela Gean Calder passed away December 28, 2016 at Rocky Mountain Care in Evanston, Wyoming.  She was born on April 17, 1928 in Evanston, Wyoming to John Albert and Hazel Sarah Felter.

She married Duane Clifford Calder on January 6, 1946 in Coalville, Utah and together had three children. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2016.

Lela Gean enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family.  She was proud to be a homemaker and instilled a love of home cooked meals and handmade gifts in her children and grandchildren.

She was an excellent cook and served the best home cooked meals. She cooked by instinct, relying on taste and smell to adjust a dish as needed. When forced to write down a recipe, it was never quite right. Her measurements were based on a "pinch of this and a dash of that".  Her home smelled wonderful because there was usually something delicious cooking on the stove.
Sunday breakfasts with Duane were a special time for them throughout their marriage. It was Duane's day off and she always prepared a huge breakfast for him, which they followed with a relaxing afternoon watching old westerns.

Lela Gean had an open door policy for her grandchildren. They used her home as their base of operations for all activities in Evanston.  As her grandchildren grew into adults, with families of their own, stopping at Grandma and Grandpa's house continued to be a treat.  They both looked forward to those visits and she created a goody bag for each great-grandchild to take home.

Aside from family, Lela Gean enjoyed going to rodeos, watching wildlife, and shopping for new shoes or purses. She loved the simple things: handmade crafts, home cooked meals, family photos, drawings from her great-grandchildren, traveling with Duane, sharing holidays and events with extended family, good music, and sharing funny stories.

Lela is survived by her children Dennis (Denise) Calder of Evansville, Wyoming, Carolyn (John) Burton of Evanston, Wyoming and Jody (Herb) Padigimus of Blackfoot, Idaho, her brothers Jess (Shirley) Felter of Hooper, Utah and Tom (Carolyn) Felter of Hooper, Utah, sister, Shirley (Twain) Carter of Morgan, Utah, sister in law, Larue Simpson of Roy, Utah as well as ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane; a brother Les Felter, grandson Randy Duane Calder and granddaughter Holly Leigh Burton.

A funeral service will be held at the LDS 4th ward church, Friday, January 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM.  A viewing will be held at the church Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour before the service on Friday.  A graveside service will follow directly after the service at the Evanston City Cemetery.
