Leila Juanne Brooks passed away at her home and surrounded by family on May 24, 2014 following a brief illness. She was born on October 25, 1928 to Essie Etta Purdue (Seeber) in Oakdale, CA. She married Delbert Brooks on May 23, 1948. They made their home in various places including Alterus, Stockton and Escalon, California. They later moved to Wyoming and lived in Farson and Rock Springs.. They settled down for the remainder of their years on the Bridger Butte near Fort Bridger, WY. In previous years, when Leila wasn’t home raising her family of four children, she worked as a Bank Teller for US Bank.
Leila was known for her sweet and sensitive spirit. She was a lover of animals, especially the many little dogs she owned through out the years. She spoiled them rotten. Leila loved being near her family and doing things with them. She enjoyed camping, hunting and traveling. She was a talented seamstress and created beautiful dresses, including her daughter’s wedding dress. Leila loved reading and ,while she still had the ability to, it was a rare night when she wasn’t snuggle up with a book.
Anyone who knew or was acquainted with Leila was addressed as “sweetheart” or “honey” regardless of how well she knew them.
In her later years, Leila suffered a massive stroke and moved in with her daughter Penny. It was at her daughter’s house that she was given the opportunity to become better acquainted with many of her great=grandchildren. Leila absolutely loved little children and her face would light up whenever she was near them. She was wheel chair bound after the stroke but it didn’t stop her from traveling to her beloved mountains whenever possible to enjoy some fresh mountain air. She also loved watching old western movies including Bonanza and Gun Smoke. Leila was a woman of tremendous faith in her Heavenly Father. She was an active member of the LDS Church for several decades. Leila knew that when she passed, she would be reunited with her Eternal partner Delbert and would enter into the Kingdom of God with him.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Delbert Lewis Brooks, her mother Essie Seeber, Step-Father Milton Byron Seeber and her only brother, Doc Williams. Leila is survived by one sister Nancy(Charlie) Green of Modesto CA, three sons Gearle(Marlene)Brooks of Highland UT, William (Leslie) Brooks of Salt Lake City, UT, Michael (Karen) Brooks of Mountain View, WY and one daughter Penny (Boyd) Meeks of Fort Bridger, WY. She also has 13 grand children, 47 great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Leila left behind a beautiful legacy of love and family. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 31, at 1 pm at the Mountain View LDS Church. A viewing will begin at 12:00pm.
