Layne Rockhill

Layne K. Rockhill returned to his Heavenly Father on December 7, 2021, age 62, peacefully surrounded by his wife, 5 girls and their families at his home in Providence, UT. He was born on April 3, 1959 in Heber, UT and is the oldest son of Kendall and Joyce (Casper) Rockhill. He was raised on the family dairy in Marion Ut, where he learned the hard work and sacrifice ethic that shaped his life.

He attended South Summit High School where he had many friends. He was a member of the FFA, Drama Club and Rodeo Club where he was a Team Roper and “legendary” Bull rider. He continued his education at Dixie College, Utah State and University of Utah.

Layne was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as a missionary in the  Finland, Helsinki Mission from 1979-1981. He loved the Finnish people and always wanted to return.

Through the years Layne served in several church callings, including as a Scout leader; Young Men’s teacher; he also served as the ward mission leader, Sunday School President, and in Elders Quorum Presidency.  He was a great teacher and loved to share the gospel.

He married Colette Prescott for time and eternity on January 28, 1982 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Together they raised 5 beautiful girls of which he was very proud.

They began their journey farming many years in Stone Idaho. Later moving to town (Tremonton) where Layne worked at Autoliv, Grover’s Excavation, and drove a Semi Truck until his girls were grown. In 2011 he and Colette returned to Kamas, UT where he had the opportunity to have his own trucking company.  This gave him the opportunity to return home to his loving wife each night, for which he was very grateful.  In July 2021 they moved to Providence, UT where he could be surrounded by his daughters to help him through his final journey.

Layne’s family was the joy of his life and his highest priority. Everything he did was with their happiness in mind. He took the opportunity to coach soccer, attend numerous dance recitals, and taught his girls to rope, ride, change tires and do anything a boy could do. Together they all enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in the great outdoors. He found great peace in the mountains and spent as much time as possible there.

Layne is survived by his wife Colette, and his 5 daughters. Mandy Jobe (Mac), Rachel Williams (Mickey), Teri Sorensen (Steve), Cami Jacobson (Landon), Nicole Campbell (Randon).  His posteritky includes 11 grandkids and 1 great-granddaughter.  He will also be missed by his father, Kendall; brothers, Craig (Lori), Dirk (Tami) and David (Angela); his sister, Stephanie Rawlings (Montie); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce; and his grandparents.

Layne is a mountain of a man who had a gift for making friends everywhere he went and made everyone feel like the most important person in the world. He is irreplaceable and is our hero.

Family and friends will gather at the L.D.S. Ward building, 4865 West 9600 North in Tremonton, Utah for a viewing on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Francis L.D.S. Ward Chapel, 387 West Last Frontier Lane, Francis, Utah.   Viewing will be from 10 to 12:30 prior to the funeral.
