LaVell H. Helf, 75 years, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the University of Utah Hospital.
He was born March 20, 1947 to LeRoy J. Helf and Myrle Hatch Helf and was one out of nine children. He was raised in a family of carpentry.
He put on his first roof by himself by the age of nine. He built many buildings in the Salt Lake Valley and beyond. He married Judy Rigby and later divorced.
From that marriage he had three daughters, Tammy, Carol, and Christine.
LaVell entered the Navy and served four tours in Vietnam as a chef.
He was a hard-working man, did everything he could to provide for his daughters and at one time he worked three jobs.
He wanted the best for his daughters. He fought City Council to build a softball field for his girls to play as the boys already had a baseball field.
He was the president of Kearns Bobby Sox for many years. Our summers were filled between him teaching us to play ball or learning to waterski and riding bikes in the sand dunes.
He moved to Wyoming in 2016 and enjoyed taking rides and exploring the beautiful scenery. He found himself a fur baby and loyal companion Shasta and later came Zoey. He would visit Jodie’s and the cowboy restaurant regularly and enjoyed visiting and always got a side of bacon to take home to Shasta and Zoey.
He is survived by his three daughters, Tammy Dirst of West Valley City, UT, Carol Helf of Ogden, UT and Christine Helf of West Valley City, UT; one brother; two sisters; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
LaVell was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and a grandson Mathew.
A graveside service will be 2:30 PM Friday, July 8, 2022 in Evanston City Cemetery.
