Lance Cameron Smith died on Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 at McCreary USP in Pine Knot, Kentucky at the age of 32. Lance was born on August 19, 1982 in Jackson, Wyoming to parents Douglas and Brenda Smith. Growing up, he attended several different schools in Wyoming and Colorado and enjoyed skiing, and playing basketball and baseball. His favorite activity was going camping and fishing with his Dad and Grandpa. Great stories were told about who got the biggest catch or who pulled the best joke on each other. Lance’s family was always very important to him and he received their support and unconditional love throughout many challenges. Lance was a talented artist. He blessed family & friends with beautiful drawings and tattoos. Lance accepted Christ at an early age, and then had a roller coaster relationship with God until the last year of his life. Over this last year, Lance came to trust in God for everything, embracing God’s love and grace with a grateful heart as he sought ways to glorify God through his actions and words.
Lance married Cheryl Cruth in 2000 and they had a precious son named Cameron Nicholas Smith who was the absolute joy of Lance’s life. During this time, Lance worked in the oilfield and lived in Buffalo and Sheridan Wyoming. Cheryl & Lance eventually divorced, but remained friends. Several years later in Gillette in 2009, Lance married Megan Santisteven and they had a beautiful little girl named Shaylee Fraya Kae Smith who was the light of Lance’s life.
Lance is survived by his children, Cameron Nicholas Smith (Mountain View, WY) and Shaylee Fraya Kae Smith (Austin, TX); father Douglas S. Smith and his wife Shaunna Romero (Mountain View, WY); mother Brenda Lee Smith (Mills River, NC); Grandmother Anita P. Smith (Rock Springs, WY); sister Courtney Aycock & her husband Steven Aycock and niece Alexis and nephew Gavin (Asheville, NC); his wife, Megan Smith (Austin, TX); ex-wife Cheryl Stegall (Mountain View, WY); and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Lance was predeceased by: Grandparents William G. Smith, Orville Burgess, and Ada Mae Burgess.
Visitation with viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 11th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crandall Funeral home in Evanston for immediate family only. Memorial services will be held at Heart of the Valley Baptist Church in Mountain View, Wyoming on Thursday, February 12th at 2:00 pm with Rev. Joe Reynolds officiating. Family has requested that attendance is limited to immediate family only. Interment will follow at Fort Bridger Cemetery. Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston is handling the arrangements.
