Keith Ray Norton was born in the home of his grandparents in Junction, Utah on April 29, 1928, to Clifford Ray Norton and Edrie Elizabeth Woods Norton. He left mortality peacefully on August 11, 2013. Over the years as his illness progressed he faced its every challenge with enduring courage and exemplary dignity.
Dad's career in the trucking business started in 1948 when he bought his first truck. When 26 years old he began working with his close friend, Dutch Aires, driving throughout the county. His profession later included IML and Overnite Transportation. He received an award for driving 6,000,000 (yes, six million) accident free miles. Dad retired three times, and following each retirement was talked into accepting jobs to help others. He especially had fond memories of filling in for vacationers (which became a full-time job) at Detroit Diesel.
Dad was an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge and a passion for Western History. Of special interest to him was the history of Butch Cassidy's (LeRoy Parker) life. Growing up, the Parker Ranch was separated only by US 89 from the Norton ranch. As a baby dad lived in the infamous Butch Cassidy's cabin in Circleville, Utah.
Dad had a special bond with all children, especially his children, step-children, grand-children, great grand-children, and many others he loved and cared for as his own. He was called "Grandpa” and “Great-Grandpa" by the lucky few. This list would not be complete without mentioning his special Pomeranians: Allie, Reno and grand-dog, Bella who he loved with all his heart.
Survived by his wife, Lorena Foust Norton; Children, Robert Norton (Lisa), Susie Norton-Laird (Jack), Richard Norton (Lisa), Kathryn Dennison (Chris), DiAnn Fortner; Step-children, Tonya Lynch (Keith), Peder Kopperud (Tracey), Kenneth Davis (Dee); Sisters, Loretta Nay and Charlotte Barnson, and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many others that were all very dear and important to him. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers-in-law Kent Nay and Carol Barnson; many aunts, uncles and dear friends.
