Joseph E. Majoris, Jr., 83, of Ft. Bridger, WY passed away peacefully at Spirit Mountain Hospice House in Cody, WY on October 31, 2017 with his children by his side.
Joe was born on April 10, 1934 in Donora, PA to Joseph E. Majoris, Sr. and Mary Pauline Toth joining big sister Pauline Ann. They had a wonderful childhood growing up in Donora and Victory Hill with many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Joe loved going to watch the Pittsburg Pirate games with his dad.
Joe graduated from high school in 1954, joining the United States Navy and proudly serving from 1955 to 1959. Joe was stationed in Norfolk, VA for one year and Charleston, SC for three years touring the Mediterranean on the USS Albany CA123.
After being honorably discharged, Joe moved to Gary, IN and worked for Pres-del Electric from 1961 until 1968. In Gary, he met Margaret Magyar and they were married on August 3, 1963 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Their daughter, Patricia Ann was born on November 18, 1964 and their son Joseph George was born on February 6, 1966.
Joe took a transfer out west to Rock Springs, WY and worked for Tree Electric from 1968 until 1972 then to FMC for two years. Joe then worked at Allied Chemical from 1974 until 1996.
In 1975 the family moved to Mountain View, WY. Joe retired in August 1996 with a surprise retirement/anniversary party shortly after moving down the road to Ft. Bridger.
Every year the family looked forward to their vacations to visit relatives in Pennsylvania, Indiana, California and Arizona. Joe and Marge enjoyed traveling, polka festivals, camping, many excursions with friends and stopping at every Moose Lodge (50 year member) or every American Legion (31 year member) that he saw. Joe was a lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, especially his beloved Steelers. Joe had a strong faith and was a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Ft. Bridger, WY.
He is survived by a daughter, Patty Walbert of Cody, WY; a son, Joe (Linda) Majoris of Roy, UT; grandchildren, Keisha and Kaycee Majoris, Jennifer Schaefer, Shandy and Billy Walbert; 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his grand dog Macy.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; parents, Joe and Mary Majoris; sister, Pauline (Charles) Dynes; mother and father in law, George and Theresa Magyar; son in law, Bill Walbert; his sisters and brothers in laws and their spouses and many extended family members.
A viewing and rosary was held at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Ft. Bridger on November 5, 2017. A funeral mass was on November 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Helen’s Catholic Church with burial and military honors at Ft. Bridger Cemetery.
