Jonathan Lewis “Jonny” Shurtleff, 81, of Lyman, Wyoming passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Evanston Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.

Jonny was born on November 18, 1933 in Mountain View, Wyoming, the son of Homesteaders Wallace Vincent and Mary (Erickson) Shurtleff.  He attended schools in Millburne and Mountain View and obtained a General Equivalency Diploma from the Bridger Valley Community Education Center.

He began his employment at Union Pacific Railroad, followed by Allied Chemical and retired from his dream position with the United States Forest Service.

His interests included hunting, gardening, trivia, playing pool, photography, music, Wyoming Cowboys sporting events, the Denver Broncos Football team and anything involving his cherished family.

Jonny’s survivors include former wife of twenty three years and mother of his children, Barbara A. Middleton Winkler of Casa Grande, AZ; three sons, John D. (Vicky) Shurtleff of Green River, WY, Michael A. Shurtleff of Henderson, CO, Jay S. (Sherri) Shurtleff of Rock Springs, WY; one daughter Penny B. (John) Watson of Lyman, WY; two step-sons, Gerald Shurtleff of Rock Springs, WY, Jason Galloway of Riverton, WY; one step-daughter, Sandra Staten of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren Keli (Jack) Brown of Fort Bridger, WY, Kati (Justin) Covolo of Rock Springs, WY, James Osborne of Denver, CO, Shawn Craig of Green River, WY, Chad (Jenny) Craig of Cheyenne, WY, Steven (Danae) Counts of Rock Springs, WY, Darin (Amy) Counts of Rock Springs, WY, Samantha Counts of Rock Springs, WY; great grandchildren, Erickson Dimick, Tharon, Rylan and Kaliann Brown, Gracie Craig, Lilyan and Brooklyn Covolo, Trayden Starkey, Haylee Counts; sisters Gloria Jensen of Lyman, WY, Donna Cook of Robertson, WY; former wife, Marilyn Galloway Lynn of Riverton, WY as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Brandi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant siblings Harriet, Arthur, Charles and Marie Shurtleff; sisters Evelyn Richards, Lavina Roper, Margaret Anderton, June Strong-Decker, Mary Ellen Bluemel; daughter-in-law Norma Osborne and his very dear nephew, Leo Roper.

Funeral services will be held at the Lyman LDS Chapel in Lyman, WY on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm.  Friends and family may call two hours prior to services.  Interment will follow at the Millburne, WY Cemetery.
