Jon Cook

Jon Charles Cook, age 80, passed away February 23, 2018 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a brief illness.

He was born February 1, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Louis and Marguerite Turner Cook.

He graduated from Evanston High School in 1956, and thereafter enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1960.  After his military service, Jon attended Weber State University for a year.  He returned to Evanston where he was a house painter with the family business, Charles Cook & Son. He took over the business and operated it for many years.  In 1986, he began working at the Wyoming State Hospital as the Paint Shop Supervisor.  He was still employed at the time of his death.

On July 29, 1966, he married Mary Jane Smith.  They had one daughter, Lisa.  They were later divorced, but remained very close friends.

The highlight of Jon’s life was spending time with his family.  He looked forward to yearly visits to Grand Teton National Park, where he especially loved relaxing at Signal Mountain Lodge, boating and fishing on Jackson Lake, and viewing wildlife.  Jon carried a vast amount of pride for his grandsons. He was loving, patient, supportive, and enjoyed participating in their many activities.

Jon is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Anthony Elardi; his grandsons, Nico and Vinny, all of Evanston; and his sister, Melissa Brown of Talent, Oregon.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church in Evanston.
