John Sykes

January 29, 1947 — December 4, 2011

John Edgar Sykes,  passed away December 4, 2011,  peacefully in his home with his family after a courageous battle with cancer.    He was born on January 29, 1947 in Raleigh, North Carolina the son of Tom Ed and Helen (Thomas) Mason.
He served his country in the Marine Corp during Viet Nam, from 1969-1971; and was later discharged with honors.
On December 6, 1976 he married Vivian Higginbottom in Evanston, Wyoming.
John served on the town council, was part of the mine rescue team, on the Senior Citizen Board and the United Way Board.   He enjoyed golf, baseball, playing racquetball with friends, hunting , fishing, and reading history.  He loved to take risks, he loved to fly and go packing in the mountains, roping, and trapping.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian;  a son John-Thomas;  and his daughters, Crissie (Ward) Larson; Theresa Sykes; Breezy Lynn (Curt Jr.) Cooley.    Also three grandchildren, Zac Larson, Anton Larson, Addysyn Sage Cooley
He is preceded in death by his parents Tom Ed and Helen Mason; brother,   Marion “Corky” Sykes and sister, Marie Walters.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Urie LDS Stake Center in Urie, Wyoming.
Friends may greet the family at the church on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm and on Thursday one hour prior to the service.
Interment with military honors will follow in the Fort Bridger Cemetery.
