John L. Lopez passed away at his childhood home in Lyman, Wyoming on December 15, 2019. John was born February 10, 1973 in Evanston Wyoming to Elsa Baum and the late Steve Lopez.
He was a lifelong resident of Lyman, Wyoming and graduated from Lyman High School in 1991. John’s greatest love was for his daughters and grandchildren. If there was anyone that would listen, he loved to talk about his girls “Stormie and the Reds”. John was widely known to be a very kindhearted person. He was always willing to help a friend. He hated confrontation but was the first to back a friend or family member when needed no matter the situation.
John was an inspiration to many and viewed as a role model in the world of construction as well as a brilliant equipment operator. He began his journey of mastering the art of operating heavy equipment at a young age. John’s father spent many years teaching the aspects of construction to him and his brother. He was full of knowledge and wisdom when it came to construction or fixing anything with a motor in it.
John was known for having tall trucks, a great passion for having fun any time of the year and of course his unwavering friendship and willingness to help others. He believed in living life to it’s fullest. He enjoyed shooting pool, hunting, and spending time with his nephews. He loved to ride his dirt bikes at Big Hill and jet-skies at the Flaming Gorge. But most of all, he waited anxiously for the snow to come so he could break out the sleds and head up the mountain with his buddies. Oh how he loved to tell stories of who crashed the hardest or who got the most air.
John is survived by his mother Elsa Baum of Lyman, WY, daughters Stormie (Dan) Pena of Coalville, UT, Tricia Schear of Green River,WY and Tracy (Chris) Culley of Mead, KS, sister Shelley Lopez of Lyman, WY and half sister Ashley Howell of Vernal, UT, brother Steve Lopez of Holister, CA, half brother Chris Lopez of Lyman, WY, nephews Bryant Lopez and Tyson Lopez, nieces Felicia (Mark) Kampman, and Shianne (TJ) Shepherd, as well as his grandchildren Brystol Pena, Jeff Spann, Sayge and Chloe Culley.
