Joann Carpenter

JoAnn Martin Carpenter passed away on November 23, 2021.  She was born to Thomas E. and Erma Field Martin on September 29, 1934, in Evanston, Wyoming and was the second of four daughters.

She married Donald Joseph Carpenter on May 8, 1958, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Salt Lake City, Utah Temple.  Together they had five children and celebrated 59 years together before his passing in 2017.

In High School, JoAnn was a member of the Bi-Phy-Chem Club, FHA Club, the Year-Book Staff, and the school newspaper staff. JoAnn studied nursing at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.  Her hobbies included sewing, fine needlepoint, cross-stitch, camping, traveling, playing the piano and most importantly, spending time with her family.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, JoAnn served eight senior couple missions with her husband, Don, including Nashville, TN; Jackson, MS; Martin’s Cove, WY; and the Ogden Temple, UT. She served for many years in Relief Society and Primary.

JoAnn is survived by her children Jeff (Lori) Carpenter of Eagle Mountain, Utah; Tammy Carpenter of Nampa, Idaho; Mark (Pauline) Carpenter of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Brenda (Kalvin) Pike of El Paso, Texas; James (Jenny) Carpenter of Flower Mound, Texas; her sister Sherry Callaham of Saratoga, Wyoming; and thirty-one grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents Tom and Erma Martin; her sisters Kay Ellsworth and Jacqueline Barker.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Ward Chapel in Mountain View, Wyoming, with a viewing that same morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  Graveside services will follow directly after the funeral at the Fort Bridger Cemetery in Fort Bridger, Wyoming.
